Darla is a 3 year old female Ocellated Velvet Gecko hatched in 2023. Ocellated Velvet geckos are small, 6-8” lizards with a chunky head, big endearing eyes and soft, pudgy-looking tail. Ocellated Velvet Gecko are endemic to Queensland and New South Wales in Australia. They can be found in rock outcroppings, this species is semi arboreal and will retreat and seek shelter in rock crevices, under bark, and in dry forest tree stumps. They are insectivores, which means that they eat insects. Males notably display defensive behavior, warding off rivals by gaping mouth threats. Ocellated velvet geckos also exhibits distinctive mating rituals, with complex tactile communication through tail tapping.
